The Wild Child of Ireland

Ireland

When planning a trip around Ireland, Dublin, Killarney, Belfast & Adare are often the destinations of choice. Although these are all beautiful places with lots to see and do, Ireland also has much more to offer. Let us introduce you to the lesser known, but equally as beautiful North-West coast of Ireland.

The North-West coast, County Sligo (Yeats’ County) and County Donegal makes up part of the Wild Atlantic Way. The area boasts two beautiful lakeside properties; the five-star Solis Lough Eske Castle and four-star Harvey’s Point. Both properties are located within a short distance from each other. They offer incredibly spacious bedrooms, ample meeting and event space and beautiful restaurants overlooking the secluded surrounding scenery.

Ireland

Donegal is renowned for its scenery. Home to one of the highest and finest marine cliffs in Europe, measuring two and half times taller than the famous Cliffs of Moher, Slieve League cliffs are a must see on any trip to Donegal. Slieve League can only be accessed by mini-coach. The small winding roads on approach are encircled by small cottages, green fields, small stone walls and sheep – exactly what you imagine finding in Ireland!

Sligo is the home county of the William B. Yeats and the county is now still referred to as ‘Yeats County’. Many places and landmarks mentioned in his work can still be visited today. Visit Lissadell House and discover some inside knowledge on the well-known poet. Yeats wrote many poems when visiting sisters Countess Markievicz and Eva Gore Booth at Lissadell and developed a strong unrequited love towards Eva.

With the wild Atlantic waves crashing against the coastline, Sligo and Donegal are also popular destinations for surfing and water-based activities and home to some of the finest and most beautiful beaches in Ireland. Sea-weed foraging is also another great activity available along the coastline. Taste, learn and discover the many health benefits of the different types of seaweed available along the coastline.

Alongside all of the above, the North-west coast of Ireland also has some fantastic restaurants, pubs and local independent traders who love to welcome new visitors. Tweed and weaving shops are dotted across Donegal and are so welcoming to groups for demonstrations.

Ireland

It has never been easier to visit these parts of the country and this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy an authentic and unique experience in lesser known Ireland.
