If you travel to Bentota during the months of November through April, take a trip to Mirissa just an hour and a half away. Join in a safari to watch the Dolphins spin and turn with hundreds of their friends and family. Go a bit further and watch the resident Whales on the surface and how they blow out water while they breathe in air. This is a magical and awesome sight, and if you are lucky you will see more than just one of these giants.
Try not to miss out on trying stilt fishing, all along the coast of Sri Lanka you will see these poles set deep into the beach where you can perch atop and fly fish. Why not also visit a moonstone mine, see how these miners go down deep into the belly of the earth and bring out these milky white stones, there is also opportunity to watch them create beautiful jewellery.

Let’s also not forget the puppeteers; beautiful dolls are crafted and strung through a string, and the local folk put on a typical folk dance with the chanting of songs. The stage show is quite entertaining and colourfully set.
If this is not enough to fill your days, you can also visit a farm where the turtle eggs are lovingly rescued and nurtured till they are hatched till they are ready to be set free to the big wide ocean.
