Since graduating from DIT’s School of Hospitality Management and Tourism over 23 years ago, Niall Rochford has embraced the industry whole heartedly. Previously Deputy General Manager at Dromoland Castle, Niall has now been General Manager of Ashford Castle since May 2002. He is responsible for the day to day running of the iconic 82 bedroom castle. Continually ensuring the hotel meets international standards of excellence Mr Rochford has a constant guest focus and is always seeking to find new and innovative ways to excel. He is highly motivated and thrives on the continual challenges the business offers. Niall is proud to have been awarded Hospitality Manager of the Year 2013 sponsored by The Irish Times. Together with his dedicated and passionate team Ashford Castle provide genuine and generous Irish hospitality on a grand scale. Now to find out a little bit more about the man behind the title…

What do you most enjoy about the job/industry?

The people and the constant challenges to be met on a daily basis.


How has Ireland, as an incentive destination, changed over your career?

We now have excellent quality products to offer, which represent good value without compromising the genuine and gracious Irish hospitality.


What is Ireland’s unique selling point as a destination?

Our heritage, culture, music and our welcome!


Where’s your favourite getaway in Ireland?

Lahinch Co Clare was a favourite of my family when we were children, and it continues to be my own family’s favourite getaway.

What would you recommend for a really great night in Ireland?

Music – whether in homes, pubs, restaurants or dedicated venues.


Who do you admire most – personal or professional?

Mrs Beatrice Tollman – Owner and Founder of Red Carnation Hotels who purchased Ashford in 2013 . Mrs Tollman is without a doubt one of the most inspiring hoteliers I have ever met.


Who would be your ideal dinner guests?

Family and or close friends – people I can relax with.


If you were not in this industry, what would you like to be?

In the Entertainment business as a Professional Singer!
