This month we are delighted to bring you an interview with Rutger Hoorn, our new Global Sales Director.

Rutger started his career in 2010 as a Corporate Sales Manager in Ovation DMC Spain. After a 3-year experience with the European Basketball Federation, he joined our family again, as a Project Manager in Ovation DMC Switzerland. Only 2 years later, he became the new Sales Director. We visited him in Switzerland and he gave us an interesting overview about the DMC industry. Read all about it!

  1. Describe yourself in three words.
    Result-driven, Passionate and straight-to-the-point!
  2. What is your professional background? 
    Starting my career in brand consultancy for the automotive sector, I moved into the sport events industry short after. With the passion for organizing events I moved into the Ovation brand 7 years ago and worked in the Spain office and now since 4 years in Geneva, Switzerland.
  3. What do you find most challenging about our industry? 
    The constant changing landscape of our industry is amazing and sometimes challenging to comprehend. How the digital age has taken over completely, there are enough indications that it will soon take off into virtual and artificial, which will change everything. Now this challenge and many others will keep us on our toes and the need to constantly adjust is crucial.
  4. What is the best thing about working for Ovation Global? 
    People and relationships are the DNA of our company, and to keep on moving forward, creating an atmosphere of collaboration and trust is key to continue performing on a high level. Meeting so many people within our own network of so many Ovation offices, our Strategic Partner Network, our Strategic Alliances and above all our customer base is a joy every day. A global team that goes the extra mile is essential, and I am fortunate to have these amazing colleagues around me.
  5. Proudest moment in your career to date? 
    Without being dramatic, my current promotion into the position of Director of Global Sales for Ovation has been one of the proudest moments in my career. Leading such a widely recognized brand on a global level in terms of sales is truly unique. Being able to continue into the footsteps of our amazing founders is genuinely amazing.

    Coldplay and LCD Soundsystem
  7. Professional(s) that you admire and why?
    Patrick Delaney and Padraic Gilligan. Both are responsible for creating communities that breathe creativity, always putting the human aspect on top and of course their unbelievable impact and knowledge of the meeting industry at hand. Amazing founders of Ovation and wonderful lads.
  8. Favorite destinations?
    That’s not easy throughout my travel I have been to so many places and met amazing people. For me the people make the destination, even though cities and mother nature have a large impact too. Cuba for its authenticity and people, Brazil for the Pantanal, New York for the amazing vibes, Amsterdam out of nostalgia, Sevilla for its ambience, Tanzania for its wildlife, Indonesia for heritage, where do I stop.
  9. What success means to you?Success is something you create together. A team effort between a mix of stakeholders. Success should be celebrated in any form. Success is setting goals and achieving them. Success can never be achieved alone. “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” (Henry Ford)”.
