The end of the year is nigh and I’m shocked at how quickly my first year in Ovation has gone by!! One major milestone for the incentive industry this year was the launch of Site Young Leaders Ireland which I was delighted to be a part of as a committee member. We had our launch in Opium Rooms on Dublin’s Wexford Street on a very wet and windy Thursday in November but we had an amazing turnout of 60+ members of the industry for our networking event. Upon arrival guests were greeted with Digital Fire, an amazing LED lights show and the giant Ted Robot & Bumble Bee from Transformers. Throughout the night The Words – an acoustic duo entertained the crowd followed by our finale, Daft Punk Tribute who really raised the bar (and the roof!) for entertainment! Our aim as Young Leaders is to promote education and networking amongst the younger generation in the MICE industry. From the Polaroid pictures taken on arrival to the special “Site-ini” cocktail, the night was deemed a huge success and as a committee, we can’t wait to continue this momentum and interest well in 2016 and beyond!

Continuing on our Site review of the year, the industry had their Annual Site Christmas Lunch on Friday 11th December in the Westbury Hotel in aid of Heart Children Ireland. A record 140 members of the industry were present on the day for a magnificent lunch with amazing raffle prizes for a wonderful cause close to the heart of Gillian Nevin Director of Sales for Hilton Ireland, whose husband spoke beautifully on the fantastic work of Heart Children Ireland for which the event raised over €5,000. Before dessert was served, each table were given a ball of playdough to celebrate the Year of Irish Design 2015 – the challenge was to come up with an innovative design to present to the group, some hilarious attempts later, the winning team was crowned after their stunning fascinator wowed the crowd… Ovation’s very own Aine O’Keefe, Director of Sales, has been at the helm of the Site Ireland Committee for two years now as President, and received a standing ovation for all of her hard work but handed over her crown graciously to Ken Lyons from the Westbury to takeover. Before she did however, she was on hand to give out the inaugural Site Idol Awards with categories such as Newcomer of the Year, Tweet of the Year and of course, Silver Fox of the Year! The evening ended as all good Irish events do, in a pub around the corner with plenty of chatter and music until the early hours…

Christmas in Dublin…

There is nothing like the buzz of Christmas in the streets of Dublin in December and I fully take advantage of all of the festive cheer! Between shopping at the very cute Christmas markets in the IFSC (by the docklands), dinner in my local pub which turns into Santa’s Grotto; The Hole In the Wall and stopping off for a Bailey’s coffee in The Bank bar on Dame St – this year was no different! I took in the amazing dancing at Swan Lake in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre and my family booked out a 26 seater cinema in Brooks Hotel for a private screening of Elf for such a unique and special experience. One thing I missed out on was getting my tickets to hear the Gospel Choir in Dublin’s stunning Christchurch but I guess I will have to save that one for next year.

Happy Holidays and see you in 2016!
